Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions about Laser Engraving & Cutting, answered
01
What materials can you laser engrave?
We laser engrave on wood, acrylic, leather, glass, metal (with marking compound), stone, marble, ceramic, paperboard, and many plastics. Materials that cannot be engraved include PVC (releases toxic chlorine gas), teflon, and highly reflective metals like pure aluminum.
02
What's the difference between laser engraving and laser cutting?
Laser engraving removes the surface layer of material to create a permanent mark or design, while laser cutting cuts completely through the material. We offer both services. Engraving is ideal for personalization, text, and detailed graphics. Cutting is used for shapes, letters, and fabrication.
03
Is laser engraving permanent?
Yes, laser engraving is extremely permanent. Unlike printing or stickers, the material is physically removed or discolored by the laser beam, creating a mark that cannot wear off, fade, or be scratched away. It's the most durable marking method available.
04
How detailed can laser engraving be?
Our laser systems achieve resolution up to 1200 DPI, capable of reproducing fine text (as small as 1mm), intricate patterns, photographs, and even barcodes/QR codes. The level of detail depends on the material โ hardwoods and acrylic hold detail better than softwoods or stone.
05
What are typical applications for laser engraving?
Common applications include: personalized gifts (trophies, plaques, keychains, jewellery boxes), industrial marking (serial numbers, barcodes, logos on parts), signage (nameplates, door signs, directory boards), awards and commemoratives, wedding and event favours, and architectural model making.
